This is a SNAP review for Race to Stupid.

Game

Race to Stupid is a trivia party game from Little Darlin’ Games. The box suggests that it is best for 2-6 players, ages 14 and up, in 30-45 minutes (but you can really play as much or as little as you want).

Art

There isn’t really any art in Race to Stupid.

There is a logo with stick figures holding up a finish line, which is repeated on both the cards and the dry erase folders. But that’s not the focus of this game.

The cards themselves are sturdy, and the folders have plenty of space to write (and also erase fairly well).

Mechanics

Race to Stupid is an “impress the judge” game with a bit of a twist.

The judge picks one of the four questions on their card and reads it out to the rest of the players. Like, “What’s the official nickname of Florida?”

Then everyone writes down two answers: first, their best guess at the real answer to the question, and second, their best “stupid”, or as we try to say, silly answer. (Keep it family friendly!)

Once everyone is ready, the judge reads out the real answer (Florida is “The Sunshine State”) – and anyone who got it right gets a point.

Then every player takes turns reading their silly answers, and the judge picks the one that they like best. (“The Florida-man State!” “The Old People State!” “The Snowbird State!” – whatever it might be.) The winner of the silly answer gets two points – whether or not they got the real answer correct.

Play a few rounds, or until you need a break from laughing at each other.

Expectations

With a suggested age range of 14+ and a disclaimer on the back of the box, we were a little nervous of playing this as a family game.

In fact, I don’t think we played it as a family game first, we played it just with adults to sense what was going on.

The disclaimer on the back of the box reads:

Race to Stupid is not approved by our mother. She thinks it is a horrible idea. But she thinks most things we do and say aren’t funny. We think it is hilariously funny and so does everyone who plays.

Remember, just because you get older doesn’t mean you have to grow up!

But, after meeting Cathy and Marie at PAX Unplugged and learning about the game, we figured it was worth a shot.

Surprises

We were surprised just how quickly this game got us laughing!

After we had played it with adults and checked through the questions, then we also played it with our kids. There were a few moments where kids started getting upset about score, but we kept reminding them: this game is not really about the score, this game is about the fun – and everybody was having it.

All three of our kids said they would be happy to play this again – which was a total surprise.

All the questions in Race to Stupid are G rated, appropriate for everyone. How appropriate this is for your family depends on your answers.

This is a game that really, genuinely surprised us. Everybody has played an Apples-to-Apples style game where the judge gets to choose the answers to the questions. But this dynamic with real answers and then “silly” answers got everybody into the act of coming up with something that was progressively more goofy as the night went on.

Race to Stupid is a party trivia game that is surprisingly good for anyone who can read, write, and make up funny statements.

You might have to be prepared for a lot of fart jokes if you have young boys in your family (or older boys in your family)…

If you play it more than a few times, you’ll start to recognize some of the questions – there’s 100 cards with four questions on each card – but since you get more points for silliness than for correct answers, I don’t think that’s a problem.

We rate it 4 out of 5 belly laughs.
